Peagle's Thank You To The Rock

I wanted to take a different approach to a post for this one, because I saw one of The Rock's Instagram posts about a fan he met not too long ago, that fan's story and how The Rock inspired him. It made me think about the last 6 years and what I had been through to this point, and how The Rock inspired me to change things around.

Those that know me know how big of a fan of The Rock I am. Since I was a kid, I gravitated to the wrestler that looked like me, talked trash and was a champion. As I got older, and The Rock moved away from wrestling into acting, I followed right along. I looked at it like, as a fan, why wouldn't I want to see him do well in other stuff if he can?

In 2009, I lost my Grandmother, a very important person in my life. I spent the last 5 months of her life with her. Basically by her side the entire time. In that, I watched her go from not being able to walk without my assistance to getting up and making breakfast for herself, then one day she was just gone. It devastated me. My grades dropped, I almost flunked out of college, I gained a lot of weight and basically wasn't myself for the better part of 4 and half years. It's weird to me to look back on it now, as my dad was always there for me, my mom as well, but nothing was pulling me out of it.

I eventually got to a point where I was aware of where I was in my life, but I still couldn't shake how I felt. I still couldn't get myself up..until I saw two quotes from The Rock: “In 1995, I had 7 bucks in my pocket and knew two things: I'm broke as hell and one day I won't be, you can achieve anything”.  Now we all know his 7 Bucks story, but there was something about the certainty of the quote that really hit me at the time. The other one was “I like to use the hard times of the past to motivate me today”. Another incredibly simple quote, but those coupled with the different videos he would post on Instagram and Twitter, lit a fire under me. I made the decision at that point to turn things around. At that time I was up 270 pounds and on the way to high blood pressure and was one more bad semester away from flunking out of college. Over the rest of 2013 and into the beginning of 2014, I got my grades back up with consecutive 3.0 semesters. In 2014, I began to work on myself and got down to 240 pounds and I felt better than I have in years. It's funny the things that break through at your lowest points in life and make you want to change things for the better.

So in a way, this post is my Thank You to The Rock, but more than that, it's for anyone dealing with hard times in their life. Keep fighting through it. It's worth it in the end.
