ROH TV Review: 8/22/15

Hello once again Eyes On The Ring readers, Nathan here with another Ring Of Honor review, this time for the episode that aired on August 22nd 2015. Tonight’s episode featured three matches and tonight you will also find out what happens when my phone battery decides to almost die while I’m tweeting a show. I usually tweet a bunch of times during Ring Of Honor as it’s my way of keeping notes for these reviews, however after NXT Takeover Brooklyn, my phone was damn near dead so this week you will be getting a more abridged version of an ROH review, which I apologize for in advance.

The show started inside of the arena as we pan around the building to see all of the fans in attendance for the evening. We then head on over to the commentary table where Kevin Kelly is there along with the returning Steve Corino, who was absent last week. They run down the line up and then send us to the ring for the first match of the night and we are ready for the action.

Match 1
The Bloodhound Warriors (Grey Wolf and Red Scorpion) vs. The Briscoe Brothers (Jay and Mark Briscoe) 

Thoughts: This match was okay, Mark and Jay are a very talented tag team and are able to work with the worst of teams, which is unfortunately exactly what they had to do here. I’ve only seen The Bloodhound Warriors in action a handful of times and they do not fit the mold of what an ROH Wrestler or in this case, wrestlers should be.  At one point in the match, Grey Wolf picks Mark Briscoe up over his head and throws him over the top rope but Grey Wolf almost didn’t throw him far enough which caused Mark to almost hit his head on the apron which could have been bad, but fortunately for him, he was able to avoid getting injured. At one point in the match, Red Scorpion finds himself on the outside of the ring and Jay Briscoe leaps to the outside and takes Scorpion out with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Mark Briscoe hits Grey Wolf with a Froggy Bow and waits for Wolf to recover before hitting him with a short arm lariat to pick up the win via pinfall.

Match Result: The Briscoe Brothers defeat The Bloodhound Warriors via pinfall after Jay Briscoe hits Grey Wolf with a short-armed lariat.

Match Rating: **

Passable match due to the Briscoe’s involvement, but as I said earlier Grey Wolf and Red Scorpion do not fit Ring Of Honor at all.

From there, we go to a pretaped promo from Adam Page where he calls Jay Briscoe an idiot and then plays up how dangerous he is as a member of the Decade. We then find out that Adam Page vs. Jay Briscoe is happening on next week's airing of the show.

We also find out that Hanson will challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship next week in a promo from Truth Martini where he confuses Hanson the wrestler for Hanson the boy band. MMMBOP!!!

From there, we go to the second match of the night.

Match 2
Roderick Strong vs. Donovan Dijak

Thoughts: Good match here, Roderick Strong brought out the best in the Dijak who is still fairly new to the ROH landscape. If you work with Roderick Strong in this point in his career, you are pretty much guaranteed to have a good match with the amazing year that he’s been having and this match was no exception to the rule. In one of Dijak’s signature spots of the match, he picked Strong up for what looked to be a fallaway slam but just threw Strong off to the side and on to the mat before taunting the crowd. Roderick recovers and goes back at Dijak, which results in a very good offensive exchange between the two before it ends with Dijak getting a near fall on a roll up that ended the particular sequence of maneuvers. The match would come to an end when Roderick Strong nails Donovan Dijak with a sick kick to pick up the pinfall victory.

Match Result: Roderick Strong defeats Donovan Dijak via pinfall after the Sick Kick 

Match Rating: **1/2

After the match, the entire House Of Truth jumps in the ring and attacks Roderick Strong and while it looks like the H.O.T. has the upper hand, War Machine run into the ring to come to the aid of Roderick and help chase off the House Of Truth.

From there, Mandy Leon takes us Inside ROH as she hypes up the Field Of Honor event which took place on the same day of this episode(August 22nd).

Next, we go to another pretaped promo, this time from Roderick Strong, who hypes up his World Title rematch with Jay Lethal at the upcoming All Star Extravaganza 7 in September.

From there, we go to the main event of the evening with the ROH World Tag Team Championships on the line.

Main Event – Match 3
Future Shock (Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly) vs. The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) {C}
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match

Thoughts: It was great to see the reunited Future Shock challenge for the straps here, and it was a nice touch having them come out to their old Future Shock theme song in “Get Off The Stoves” by the Stoves.  At some point during the match, Chris Sabin who was on commentary, claimed to have super mutant healing powers and said that that is why Daniels and Kazarian will never lose the World Tag Team Championships Of The World (Don’t ask what that means because I have no idea). This was a very back and forth match with plenty of offensive maneuvers and sequences from both teams. At this point during the show, my phone was dying so I wasn’t able to take thorough notes via Twitter, so once again I apologize for that, but the match came to an end when The Addiction won via pinfall after hitting Celebrity Rehab on Adam Cole to pick up the pinfall victory and retain the World Tag Team Championships.

Match Rating: **1/2

From there, Chris Sabin jumped into the ring and helped his Knights Of The Rising Dawn team members Daniels and Kazarian further dispose of Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly before the show went off of the air for the evening.

So I guess this review ended up not being too bad to do considering that I didn’t have much to go off of and was pulling all of this out of my brain via memory, but it happened to work itself out. Hopefully next week things will be back to normal and I’ll be able to give a more descriptive review, but I’m pleased with how this one turned out. This show is definitely worth checking out, provided you have a spare hour and if you cut out the first match because it’s not really worth seeing, it’ll only take you about 20-25 minutes to get through.
