5. The Rock vs. Triple H, Summerslam 1998
-You know the Attitude Era was a special time when two stars like The Rock and Triple H were feuding over The Intercontinental Title. This classic IC Title match was contested in a ladder match, and it was captivating from the opening bell. Rock and Hunter, two young, hungry stars who were beginning to hit their respective stride around this point. These two gave it all they had and kept the audience on the edge of their seats. In the end, Triple H proved to be victorious in a slobberknocker of a ladder match that still holds up to this day.
4. Undertaker vs. Mankind, King of the Ring 1998
-The greatest Hell in a Cell match in history. Mankind always had a knack of bringing out the best in his opponents, even if it meant risking life and limb to do so. Mick has long-said, although everyone remembers him getting thrown off of the top of the cell, the bump that messed him up the most was when the roof broke and he fell to the canvas below. That match still makes me cringe, and it further made Undertaker look like an absolute killer.
3. Steve Austin vs. The Rock, Wrestlemania 15
-The first of 3 encounters between Rocky and The Rattlesnake. It was a close decision between this and their match at 17, but I chose this because I still don't agree with the Austin heel turn at 17. Both Rock and Austin were as hot as could be, and were the top two stars in the business at this point. When these two squared off at Wrestlemania 15, it was like pouring gasoline on 4-alarm blaze. They completely tore the house down, and is a solid reminder of why the Attitude Era was once in a lifetime.
2. Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin, Wrestlemania 14
-The dawn of a new era. The shot of adrenaline the wrestling world needed, as well as the reluctant passing of the torch on the part of Shawn Michaels. Michaels was wrestling with a terribly injured back, and this would be the last match he would have for 4 years. Austin was already building a ton of momentum going into this match, but this was the tipping point that shot Stone Cold into another atmosphere. With Mike Tyson counting HBK's shoulders to the mat for a 3 count, the era of middle fingers, Steve-weisers, and Stone Cold Stunning everyone and their grandmothers, was officially underway.
1. Hardys vs. Dudleys vs. Edge & Christian, Wrestlemania 17
-This took place right after the WCW purchase, but was before the official "invasion" of WCW wrestlers, so I'm counting it as Attitude Era. TLC 2 at Wrestlemania 17 is still the standard-bearer for last matches and tables matches, add will as tag team matches in general. This match happened in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. The Golden Age of tag team wrestling in the WWF/E reached it's fever pitch with this match. It was an absolute human car crash, and it couldn't be more glorious. Bump after bump, high spot after high spot, it went 100mph from bell to bell. It also includes the greatest spot ever, when Edge speared Jeff Hardy in mid-air as he was hanging from the title belts. Edge and Christian went on to win the titles that night, in a match that will be revered for the rest of time.
