No Way Out week is in full effect and despite the PPV no longer existing, it is responsible for some of the best matches we've seen thus far and some of the biggest encounters. Today, I'm listing the top 5 No Way Out matches, and as you can see, there are none of the Elimination Chamber matches listed from the No Way Out 2008 or 2009 events (didn't feel that they truly deserved to be placed in the top 5, but a top 10 list definitely). Some of these matches are well known without a doubt, while others are a bit slept on. Let's get into the list.
5. Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle and Team Angle at No Way Out 2003
-This match might be a shocker honestly. Originally it was a 6 man tag with Edge teaming with Brock and Benoit, but circumstances prevented Edge from wrestling in that particular match so it became a handicap match. What followed in that regard is a great 14 minute contest full of back and forth action that saw 5 of the best in ring performers of that era go at it. Brock and Benoit would pick up the victory and Angle and Brock would continue their title feud going into Mania. I personally would have preferred this match to be Brock and Benoit vs Team Angle, with Edge vs Angle for the WWE Title at this PPV, but of course, like I said injuries and circumstances prevented Edge from wrestling. Great match regardless and truly slept on.
4. Triple H vs Cactus Jack in Hell in A Cell at No Way Out 2000
-Foley was nearing the end of his run with WWF and wanted to go out in a blaze of glory. In the midst of a crazy feud with Triple H for the title, Foley put his career on the line. This match was a great contest, though it doesn't compare to the street fight they had the month prior at the Royal Rumble IMO, it is a great match with Foley putting it all out on the line and taking another tough amount of bumps until HHH gets the victory to retire Foley (for only about a few weeks, but still).
3. Brock Lesnar vs Eddie Guerrero at No Way Out 2004
-This was the shining moment in Eddie Guerrero's career and one of the biggest shining moments in Brock Lesnar's career without question. Truthfully, this should have been the match that headlined Wrestlemania 20 for the title instead of the terrible Brock vs Goldberg match and the often done, but still good Eddie vs Kurt Angle. Regardless, this match is solid with a bit of back and forth with Brock having the upper hand. The only gripe is Goldberg coming in and interfering to help Brock lose the title. Eddie wins the championship in a very emotional moment in WWE history. The match is hands down one of the best in the PPV history.
2. Triple H vs Stone Cold Steve Austin in a 3 Stages of Hell Match at No Way Out 2001
-One of the oddest booked feuds in history is Triple H vs Austin. Austin was unstoppable in his run from 1998-2001, but to my recollection, Austin never pinned him in their bigger matches or any of their matches on PPV. Outside of a victory for Austin against Triple H in the UK on PPV I believe, Austin had lost in a triple threat at Summerslam, lost at No Mercy 1999, didn't beat Triple H at Survivor Series 2000, and loses this 3 Stages of Hell Match 2 straight falls to 1. Austin was on the road to winning the belt at Mania 17 so I have no idea why he didn't win this match to close the feud out, but this match was an amazing battle all around without a doubt. Both stars brought their best and Austin had his best match since returning from a year long injury. Triple H walks away with the win (he probably shouldn't have) in a classic.
1. Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker at No Way Out 2006
-This match is one of my all time favorite matches ever and I got to see it live. Taker and Angle went at it for 30 minutes for the title and this was a technical and grappling classic. Angle was in rare form here, putting on a wrestling clinic, and I have to admit Taker surprised a lot of us with his great display as well. Angle technically walks away with the victory in a too close to call it pinfall win, but this match has everything you could want in it. Taker took part in two of my all time favorite matches and this is one of them for sure. The other? I'll just say Wrestlemania 25. Nuff said. Regardless, Angle and Taker had plenty of chemistry and good matches in the past, but this is their greatest encounter without a doubt. Still fun to watch again.
