With Survivor Series right around the corner, we wanted to start looking back at a ton of the Survivor Series events from over the years. Since we didn't want to look back at last year's event because nothing about it was memorable, I figured we start off with a look at the event that has one of the best Survivor Series matches ever, and one of the biggest debuts in WWE history, Survivor Series 2014. The show itself is middle of the road, but there are some big moments within it. Let's start with the first match of the night and work our way through the card.
*Fatal Four Way Tag Team Title Match
The Miz and Damien Mizdow vs Goldust and Stardust vs Los Matadores vs The Usos
-Another painstaking reign by the Usos ends here, as the formidable and really over team of Miz and Sandow won the titles to a huge ovation. The match was a decent contest to kick off, and with the crowd behind Miz and Sandow, there's nothing else better than giving them what they want. Miz and Sandow pick up the win and take the titles and start their interesting journey. Good way to start the show.
*Four on Four Traditional Survivor Series Match
-Alicia Fox, Emma, Natalya, and Naomi vs Paige, Cameron, Layla, and Summer Rae
-Boy.... has the women's division changed for the better? This match was pretty sloppy, and a majority of the women (including Summer Rae, dumb ass fans), were just not solid in the ring here and Paige was already on a decline at this point. Alicia Fox and her team pick up the win in a match that went almost 15 minutes and really had nothing significant occur. A very forgettable match and a bit of a damper on the night after the solid opener.
*Bray Wyatt vs Dean Ambrose
-I was so excited for this match and feud... leave it to WWE to ruin it for me some. I was expecting this match to be brutal and full of great action and maybe that's my fault. The match itself was entertaining for the first 10 minutes, and as it was getting good, we get a silly DQ finish. The finish made both Ambrose and Wyatt look weaker and no one benefited from this one. A true case of WWE dropping the ball.
*Adam Rose and The Bunny vs Heath Slater and Titus O'Neil
-So......... this was really on the card. Like out of all the other matches that could have been included, they gave 3 minutes of ring time to this bullshit. Adam Rose and The Bunny win... but who gives a shit? Jesus, this PPV is bad so far.... minus the opening match and part of Wyatt vs Ambrose. Is there an improvement on the way?
*WWE Divas Title Match
Nikki Bella vs AJ Lee
-I hate this match. I hate that Nikki won. I hate the whole thing surrounding this. AJ suffered because of her husband and the WWE vendetta against him. So Nikki won in 33 seconds. That's right, 33 seconds. She defeats AJ for the title and held onto it for damn near a year... and none of us asked for this. None of us. At all.
*Traditional Survivor Series Match
John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Erick Rowan, Big Show vs Luke Harper, Rusev, Mark Henry, Kane, Seth Rollins
-This is the match that we all remember from the show. I remember watching this with friends and I wasn't necessarily excited about anything involving this particular match going into it, but then the night of the show, I got word that Sting might make his debut. I was waiting. Big Show turned heel again for no reason and caused Cena to get pinned. Rowan, Big Show, Ryback, and Cena were all gone. Still waiting for Sting. Rusev was eliminated. Mark was eliminated. The match was a bit slow at this point, but still fun. It would be when Ziggler was the last man left and had to overcome the odds that I knew something was about to give. After Kane got eliminated, it was down to Luke Harper and Seth vs Ziggler. Ziggler fought and got rid of Harper at the 31 minute mark... then it was down to Seth vs Ziggler... and we were treated to an amazing 11 minutes of action that saw Triple H get involved and attack Ziggler before Sting made an appearance. Sting appears, drops Triple H and Seth, then helps Ziggler win. The stipulation on the match was that if Team Cena wins, The Authority disbanded, but as we know that was short lived. Regardless, this match is the highlight of the show and possibly a top 5 Survivor Series match of all time for the arrival of Sting, the final 20 minutes, and the beautiful chemistry of Seth and Ziggler in the ring.
This PPV overall was very very weak, but had a few bright spots. Is it one of the best Survivor Series PPVs? Far from it. Does it have one of the better Survivor Series matches and one of the biggest arrivals ever? Yes. This was one big boost to Survivor Series, but if I had to rate this event on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 4 or 5. Middle of the road.
