There was a woman's revolution in the WWE this year and it all began with the women of NXT. Whether they made it to RAW, Smackdown, or stayed on NXT, these women of the year were absolutely the best for the division.
Runner Ups
*Bayley
-It's hard to REALLY pick Bayley as a runner up because she wasn't as successful this year as 2015, but her popularity kept her afloat and led her to make it from NXT to the main roster on RAW where she contended for the Women's Title in a triple threat match with Sasha Banks and Charlotte and picked up wins over Charlotte, Alicia Fox and Dana Brooke along with being the winning survivor (with Charlotte) at Survivor Series. A solid year but 2017 looks to be better for her.
*Alexa Bliss
-She has to get a mention because who would have guessed it? In NXT, she was struggling, seeming like she had a lot of improvement to make, but once she got to Smackdown, she seemed to get more and more comfortable, building herself up well against Becky Lynch until she recently won the Women's Title for Smackdown, a huge moment for her and the biggest moment of the year on Smackdown for the women as it was totally unexpected.
*Becky Lynch
-The Queen of Smackdown just lost her title, but she was really good this year and improved tremendously. After a solid match at Wrestlemania 32 in a triple threat with Sasha and Charlotte, she would end up winning the Women's Title for Smackdown at Backlash before dropping it to Alexa Bliss at TLC a week ago. Becky didn't have the greatest year, but it was definitely a very solid year for her overall.
*Asuka
-The fact that Asuka has captivated audiences so well is a testament to her ability despite not being able to cut promos very well, but her in ring work is absolutely amazing. After victories over Bayley, Mickie James, and Nia Jax, Asuka has had a great year but it's clear it's time for her to move on to the main roster. She could be the biggest star if given the push. Time will tell. She remains the NXT Women's Champion.
Winners: Charlotte and Sasha Banks
-One isn't the same without the other. It's as simple as that. I can't choose between the two because these two aren't the same without feuding with each other. Charlotte has been champion for the better part of the last year and a half, but her reign was so boring and lifeless up until she began her Sasha feud that I couldn't put her as the sole winner. Some would argue that Charlotte with Flair by her side was great, but I found it to be annoying. Not in a "oh she's a great heel" type way, but rather "this whole using her father and his legacy thing is boring me to tears" type of deal. The excitement that surrounded her Wrestlemania 32 battle with Sasha and Becky Lynch was the highlight of her reign, and when she got with Sasha, it was magic. Sasha honestly should be the sole choice and though people throw hate her way, it's evident she's the leading reason for the feud being so prevalent. Don't believe me? Charlotte vs Natalya headlined an episode of RAW in a segment and no one wanted to see it. Charlotte vs Paige couldn't main event a RAW or a PPV and make people care. Sasha and Bayley main evented NXT and could probably main event a PPV or a RAW as well. The thing about it is simple: Sasha is the larger reason why they have made history, BUT this feud wouldn't be what it is without Charlotte as the perfect heel and villain. Both women play their roles perfectly and are easily the top two women on this main roster. So, when tasked with the responsibility of choosing who is the woman of the year in WWE, it became clear that both women deserve this honor. There's no way you can truthfully pick one over the other. Charlotte and Sasha need each other.
